Ivan Wallace Trophy
Monday, 03 January 2011 12:08
Unfortunately due to the log-term cold weather, the annual Boxing Day fixture was cancelled several days in advance. This was a particular shame as the teams were competing for the “Ivan Wallace Boxing Day Trophy” in it`s inaugural year. Ivan sadly passed away earlier this year and he will be remembered by all of us who have been associated with Academy RFC both past and present. He was a stalwart of the club and his contribution to Academy and BRAFP in previous years deserves a debt of gratitude from us all. Ivan was always smiling and his pleasant demeanour will never be forgotten. As a testament to his memory, the Wallace family kindly presented the trophy to President David on Monday 27th December in the clubrooms.

I had the privilege of hosting Mrs Wallace- Ivan`s mother, his sister Judy Agnew and 2 of her children Sarah and Christopher – who came to hand over an excellent silver salver-a fitting tribute to one of “our own”. Mrs Wallace 90 years young stole the show by cleaning the club out of sherry!! It was however a splendid occasion and I would like to thank Judy for volunteering the gesture and on behalf of Academy RFC, thank her and all the family circle for their generosity. I sincerely hope they all return next year to present the trophy to the winning captain-we will endeavour to replace the sherry!!
