2002 report from Saturday.

We had 10 kids turn up for our fixture against Instonians. Ben from P3 was making his debut.

3 sets of 7 mins were played.

In the first game we  started off well with some strong defence  but were unable to break down a physical instonian team.

Nik and Ben tackled well but we found it difficult to go forward in numbers. The match finished with Instonians scoring some fine tries .

Before the next game began the coaches emphasised tackling from all the team and not just a few.

Tom ,Matthew,Patrick and the 2 Jack's responded to this upping their work rate.However we couldn't turn our possession into tries with instonians breaking away and scoring repeatedly .

The final game  started with a target  set by the coaches of  scoring  some tries .Academy managed to score  , Ben sneaking over the instonians try line in the corner.James and both Daniels  were also getting there hands on the ball .Unfortunately from Academy point of view Instonians also scored lots of tries.

Both sides suffered from the cold temperature and the match finished with the kids having a quick chat from the coaches and a bag of sweets for the warm car journey home.

Over all a useful day if a bit cold for the kids.Instonians were a strong team with good tacklers and runners.

2 things to work in the new year are tackling (as usual) and ball retention.
