Monday, 08 November 2010 09:40
Grosvenor 2nds V Academy 2nds (23-Oct-10)
Academy had to soak up early Grosvenor pressure, but some aggressive defence by R.Henderson on the blindside of a scrum gave J.Ball his first penalty opportunity (0-3, 5 mins). As academy worked their way into the match, J.Kelly powered through the Grosvenor defence for a try from 25m out (0-10, 17 mins).
Grosvenor replied almost immediately when their right wing fielded the ball when running at full tilt, then ran through a couple of tackles to touchdown under the posts (7-10, 19-mins).
Academy forwards retrieved the ball from the kickoff , and keeping the ball tight, the forwards drove to the line, with M.Corkey eventually surging over for the try (7-15, 22-mins).
As Academy continued to exert pressure and had territorial advantage, J.Ball landed three more penalties (32, 36 & 39 mins) go give a 7-24 halftime lead.
J.Ball continued his fine kicking form into the second half with another penalty (7-27, 55-mins).
Academy lost focus in the last 20 mins, so when a Grosvenor clearance kick was allowed to bounce, it bounced back into Grosvenor hands for another try under the posts (14-27, 62 mins). Grosvenor were on the front foot for the final quarter of the game, but Academy’s goal line defence held out. (14-27, fulltime).
