Donaghadee 2nds V Academy 2nds  (16-Oct-10)

Fullback, N.Carson got Academy off to an excellent start with two tries in the opening ten minutes. For his first score, he ran down the touchline from the halfway line, he was fortunate that the kick ahead bounced off a defender back into his hands, allowing him to round the remaining defence (0-7, 4 mins). His second came from a scrum on the 22, taking a short pop pass from outhalf P.Moffett (0-14, 10-mins). The fullback could have had a hat trick, but the pass to put him clear was adjudged forward.

Academy kept up the pressure, and keeping possession for a series of rucks, the ball was eventually moved to the left wing for M.Nichol to side step the defence (0-19, 33-mins).

From a shortened lineout, P.Moffett popped to R.Press, who charged up the pitch, drew the fullback then passed to B.Cahill, who was always in support (0-26, 37-mins).

From the kickoff, Academy kept possession as they drove back up the pitch, this time R.Press powered over from a ruck near the goal line (0-33, halftime)

In the second half, Academy lost focus, which allowed Donaghadee much more possession, working Academy hard in defence. Eventually Academy broke out with prop R.Press on another dynamic run from his own 10m line to score, with B.Cahill’s support not required (0-38, 71 mins). A yellow card for Donaghadee No.8 (76 mins) made little difference to Academy’s final flourish, B.Cahill’s first offload keeping the movement flowing with P.Moffett crossing for the touchdown (0-45, fulltime).
