Instonians 4ths V Academy 2nds (2-Oct-10)
Academy had a poor start, they fielded the kickoff but the ball was turned over leading to an Instonian’s penalty (3-0, 1-min). The restart kick was then kicked direct into touch.
In the opening 15 mins, Instonians created an overlap on at lease four occasions but failed to convert any, so it was much against the run of play when outhalf, N.Carson, chipped the opposition backline, caught the ball on the bounce and rounded four defenders before touching down (3-7, 17-mins).
N.Carson also had a hand in Academy’s second try, this time making a break down the blindside in Instonian’s 22, and then feeding inside for K.Dobbin to run round under the posts (3-14, 22 mins). Again Academy did not control the kickoff, leading to another Instonians penalty (6-14, 24-mins).
Academy opened the scoring in the 2nd half, with a penalty (6-17, 41 mins), before Instonian’s winger managed a try in the corner, despite N.Carson’s attempt to hold him up over the line (11-17, 48-mins).
Academy replied instantly, when A.Crowe returned a defensive kick, dancing through and drawing the defence, before the ball was moved wide, with centre Matt Nichol scoring (11-22, 50 mins).
Academy’s mistakes allowed Instonians back into the game, with two further tries (58 & 64 mins) but missed conversions, including one from in front of the posts kept Academy in the lead (21-22).
Academy finally closed out the game, when from a lineout on Instonian’s 22, N.Carson ran a wrap around move with captain G.Davis in the centre, to score his second try (21-29, 74 mins).
