Academy 2nds V Ballynahinch 5ths (25-Sept-10)
This week’s fine weather gave Academy the chance to play some good open rugby, albeit against a Ballynahinch team, which surprisingly, offered little in way of opposition.
In the opening minutes P.Moffet bounced another penalty kick off the crossbar, although this week the ball was reclaimed, with P.Moffet scoring the first try (5-0, 2 mins).
K.Dobbin used good footwork to step through the defence for the second try (12-0, 8 mins), before centre Matt Nichol, ignored the overlap, to score himself (17-0, 17 mins).
R.Press powered over from a penalty move (22-0, 22 mins), before winger Aaron Hamilton touched down in the corner (27-0, 25 mins).
P.Moffett strolled in from the 22 to scored again, after an outrageous dummy fooled three
Ballynahinch defenders (34-0, 38mins).
K.Dobbin fielded the re-start kick and gained 40 metres, with Clark Cooper in support to score the try (41-0, halftime).
Barring, D.McAllister’s try at the start of the second half (48-0, 45 mins), Academy went to sleep for 20 minutes. Ballynahinch rallied, scoring a try from a catch and drive off a 5m lineout (48-7, 61-mins) and started to enjoy some possession, before Academy broke out of defence, A.Hamilton and R.Press combining well, with G.Adair scoring the try and prop A.McCormick with the conversion, via the crossbar (55-7, 70 mins).
Two further try’s by R.Press (72 mins) and N.McCarey (75 mins) resulted in the game being blown early. (67-7, fulltime).
