Academy 2nds V Ballyclare 3rds  (18-Sept-10)

Continuous rain meant flowing rugby was never on the cards, but both teams battled hard in a close fought contest. The only scores in the first half were an exchange of penalties, after 12 mins for Ballyclare and 25 mins for Academy. At this point scrums went uncontested as Academy prop, Gareth Douglas, retired with a shoulder injury.
Academy were reduced to 13 men for the start of the second half, with No.8, also retiring with an injured shoulder. Again another exchange of penalties (Ballyclare 43 mins & Academy 54 mins) kept the match all square.
Academy’s outhalf Phil Moffett missed the chance to give Academy the lead when his penalty attempt bounced off the crossbar (62 mis).
Academy defended well with 13 men, but the ref showed them no leniency when he yellow carded Academy prop Jonny Allen for speaking out of turn (64 mins).
Ballyclare’s superior numbers eventually told, scoring two trys in the last 5 minutes to win 6-18.
