Academy 2nds V Coleraine 3rds  (11-Sept-10)

Academy kicked off the new league season against a strong breeze and a bigger, more experienced Coleraine team. Coleraine’s defence was tested first, but they forced the Academy winger into touch to avoid a score in corner.
At the other end of the pitch, the Academy defence was not as strong allowing a lone runner to drive off a ruck (0-5,  16 min).
Coleraine’s lead was short lived, when Ricky Press broke the defence to score (7-5, 22 min)
The lead changed again minutes later, this time Coleraine’s No.8 barged through several half tackles (7-10,  24 mins).

Early in the second half, Ricky Press made another clean break, drew the fullback, then offloaded to Keith Dobbin, who was up in support (14-10,  53 mins). Academy’s next attack ended in a try for the left wing (19-10,  57 mins). At this point in the match, Academy were looking strong and should have closed out the match, however their cause was not helped when prop, P.Jackson, retired with an injured shoulder, and the scrumhalf was yellow carded for dangerous use of the boot (albeit on a Coleraine player who dived on the wrong side of the ruck to kill the ball). Academy sat back, allowing Coleraine to run at them, scoring three trys in the last 12 minutes to steal the victory (19-29).
