Grosvenor Friendly Report

Academy 26 – Grosvenor 5

A sunny day at Roughfort?……during the rugby season?…….”smell that man’s breath!!”

Some new faces today, Neil Buchanan, Gavin Harper, and Stephen Stewart – Welcome to the ‘fort!!

Grosvenor started the game well, confirming they are a well drilled outfit – good defence, if a wee bit light in attacking options. We had the bulk of the possession and territory in the first 20mins, but we were ponderous up front, not really rucking with pace, hence Grosvenor were well set in defence and we got nowhere. We had several possible scoring chances that went west at the last pass………”Oh Dear me” said Coach McKee (or his equivalent). As we got closer to ½ time, Grosvenor were less calm in defence, as we started to get a bit of go forward into the game, and, on 30 mins, Coop kicked a penalty as Grosvenor infringed at a ruck following some good biff bang from the “lumpies”: 3 – 0. On 38 mins, we scored through that other “Billy Whiz” (the one without the broken finger) Jonny Edens, who scored out wide, finishing off a fine handling move, Coop converted: 8 -  0. That rounded of the half.

The first 10mins of the second half sealed the result for us:
• 42 mins: Jonny E got the ball in counter attack, kicked ahead and stripped the ball from the Grosvenor defender, Gurt and Ricky Press rumbled on in harness, to feed Gavin Harper to dot down, Coop converted: 15 – 0
• 45 mins: Grosvenor scored from some good work by the forwards rounded off with a good try out wide: 15 – 5
• 49 mins: another Coop penalty: 18 – 5
The game went into another lull as we eased up and failed to maintain the improved forward driving, and the scoreboard stopped moving, until 63 mins, when Coop kicked another penalty: 21 – 5. Grosvenor started to show signs of fatigue and we finally captialised at the death, when Coop broke from ½ way, fed through mucho handos, to end up with Knoxy bouncing over – quality! 26 – 5

Well done lads! Two good weeks prep now before we’re off to Omagh for League game 1!
